Lego City 2010 Reviews

Set 7567: Traveller $3.49

This is an exceptionally good impulse set for the Lego City Airport sub-theme. This set includes a happy tourist with a jacket, camera, and camera bag. As he checks his bags (which are placed on the luggage cart), he looks at the flight schedule to find out when the plane to Denmark will take off. My only complaint (and it's not even a complaint about the set) is that the 3181 plane hasn't been released yet.

Set 3177: Small Car $4.99

This is a very nice new set for the Airport sub-theme, a dark brown-haired fellow in a (new) hoodie and green pants driving a sturdy smart (it looks like a smart car, so I call it one) car. It's an excellent set featuring a new hoodie-print torso and rare dark brown kid hair. I like!

Set 3178: Seaplane $10.99

Another Airport set, this set has a cleverly-built seaplane with a sturdy pilot and a small piece of land with a tank of Octan fuel and a windsock. The plane has a small cockpit and a rear luggage compartment. The pilot has the new curved-brim hat. My only complaint (and this is kind of weird) is that the fuel tank doesn't have an Octan symbol printed or stickered on it. Preferably printed. Oh well. The set's great anyway!

Set 3179: Repair Truck $12.99

Another great Airport set: an electrician's truck! Perfect for repairing the lights at an airport and runway! The truck has a raising bucket for repairing lights, tool compartments, tools, extra lights, and work-site blockades. The portion of sidewalk has a (I estimated with the 7047 Coast Watch HQ) two-story street light and a green recycling bin. A great set!

I also have new Atlantis sets, a Power Miners set, and a Toy Story set, so stay tuned!

Day 24: Saint Nick and Chimney

The last day of the calendar, and we meet a happy surprise: Santa Claus, with a sack on his back, and a cinder-filled chimney with stockings mounted on it. How cute!

Check J.B. Webcomics Soundtrack for the Wasteland of Junk: Plateau theme.

I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

Day 23: Christmas Tree

The day before Christmas Eve, and we are gifted with a tiny Christmas Tree, a fairy wand adorning the top. Cute!

This must be the tree the lumberjack cut down and decorated.

As I forgot to add: Next: Wasteland of Junk 2!

Remember to check J.B. Webcomics Soundtrack for the Wasteland of Junk: Canyon theme.

Day 22: Log Stand, Log, and Chainsaw

Today we are gifted with a very ingenious mini-set: A piece of firewood on a stand and a chainsaw to cut it with! This fits the Christmas theme entirely! This leaves one more day of Lumberjackiness, and then a Santa Claus day.

Long 5-page strip today, make sure to read it all.

Thanks (sincere) to my brother, Adam, for the use of his room as the Wasteland of Junk.

Also thanks (sarcastic) to Adam for chasing the cat out of his room, thereby lowering the coolness of the Wasteland.

Day 20: Track Flag and Cones, RC Car, and Car Control Stick

So that's what happened with that red car!

Good job, Lego! More festive cheer! The rest of the RC Car set! Tomorrow will we get a track or something else?

Day 21: Lumberjack

Maybe not.

Lego breaks loose and cuts the RC Car theme a day short. Instead, we get a festive tree-chopper! (No sarcasm-sounding intended.)

This lumberjack wears a protective vest, hat, and sunglasses. Under the vest, he wears overalls with a pen and wrenches in the pocket.

This means two more days of Lumberjack!

The cones mark the battlefield (though they're hard to see) and the lumberjack is behind the good guy (though you can't see him at all. The good guy is in front of him.)

This will be good!

Day 19: Kid and RC Car

Orange hair! Red shirt! Smile face! Blue antenna! Dark blue legs (you can't see them well)! White RC car!

One thing was a matter of confusion to me. On the box, an orange-haired kid played with a red car. However, on my 2010 set order email telling me the order shipped, a dark-brown haired boy controlled a white car. This appears to be a combo. Nice!

Yes, that's right. Another fight scene, another several page long strip, another boss. Bet you can't guess who!

Day 18: Frozen Fountain

Today we get a nice surprise: a frozen fountain! Obviously, the Public Worker is meant to turn of the water pipes before they can freeze. Go, Lego! More holiday cheer!

The water burst piece is pretty rare, but I got one recently from one of my 2010 sets (I got two sets that I'll be reviewing soon.)

So his name is revealed! "Dieses könnte falsch sein" stands for "This might be bad."

The dark figure on the right is the Public Worker, but who is the other character? The other character who brazenly spouts Cybershield's name!

Day 17: Snow Cleaning Cart

I was wrong, I admit it.

Lego is in the festive spirit!

Yesterday's Janitor was really a public serviceman who cleans the sidewalk of snow. This little cart includes a shovel and a place to put the broom, and also some snow. A cute little design!

Go Lego!

Don't worry, this is leading up to something. Tomorrow.

Day 16: Janitor

And Lego slips out of holiday cheer.

I do like the grey beard and orange suit, but the blue hat is the old type.

Maybe Lego can make a mistletoe-covered trash can or something.

Just a strip to take care of the janitor and showcase the German's weaponry.

He absorbs attacks through his shield and fires them through his gun.

Day 15: Park Bench in Winter

Before I start talking, let me say something:

I will not rant about this bench, even though it, too, appeared in the Lego City Minifigure Collection. Minifigure repetition is infuriating, but you can never have too many benches. This one, unlike the former, has a white base, signaling snow rather that grass.

That means Christmas spirit!

Gut, Sie zu sehen stands for "Good to see you." It's German. That means he must be German! No, this is not an attempt at some sort of Nazi humor. Don't worry. He's just German.

Day 13: Chef

This could be the start of a festive theme. Maybe.

Day 14: Hot Cocoa Stand

Well, what do you know! Festive theming! YES! Lots of extra parts: extra red and white slopes extra flower, extra stem.

Day 12: Crate and Package

Sorry for the dark picture. I took this around noon.

Today Lego makes more attempts at festiveness: and they succeed with a rare-ish crate and a present.

The crate and parcel fit on the back of the mail car, finishing our Postman theme. I liked this theme, and I'll be sorry to see it go.
And the mailman delivers the Hat of Wonder. This could get bad...

Day 11: Postman Car

A opened top mail car? In winter? He must live below the equator.

But really, aside from that, there's nothing wrong with this little mail cart. Might be good for a Lego Mario Kart! Maybe tomorrow we'll get some mail.

Onwards toward the comic:

Looks like he enjoys his mail kart. Maybe it's his Christmas present.

Day 10: Postman

And as we move to double digits, we come into a new theme: Postman. I can think of this as festive, seeing as how all my presents are coming in the mail.

The mailman torso and happy gray beard are new parts to my collection, and the mail bag I have only one of already. And, if you didn't know, that's a new type of hat. The brim is curved, and you can turn it around and it doesn't cover the minifig's eyes.

And in the Lego world:

I made the jungle scene first, and the comic formed around it. And yes, the postman is in the comic. He's being chased by an armored dude in the background of the first panel. Yes, that counts.

Day 9: Pedestrian Crossing Signal

Some might believe that I might rant about how this appears to be a torn-down version of the traffic light in the Lego City Minifigure Set. But I won't. Because this isn't a traffic light.

It's a pedestrian crossing signal! You can tell by the just two lights and yellow button.

Even though this isn't really festive, it's a nice little build.

On to the comic:

A handy use for the pedestrian crossing signal! I wish I could have had something with a computer, however un-festive. It's still useful!

Day 8: Police Barricade

Well, there is some Christmas spirit. It's probably to block off roads for a parade. That's a nice bit more of Christmas spirit there: a new (to my collection) candy-striped barrier tile! How festive!

Now to see what's happening at the calendar:

A new plot twist! The Robot Snowman Lord is coming back!

Day 6: Lamppost

And Lego finishes the Ice Skater theme with a festive lamppost and mistletoe. The "mistletoe" and glass case are new pieces to my collection. Can Lego keep up the Christmas spirit?

Day 7: Officer Vernon

It appears not. Hold on while I rant.

Note something odd about this guy? Besides the Uncle Vernon head from Harry Potter, I mean.

Office Vernon is almost the exact same minifigure as the policeman in the recent Lego City Minifigure Collection. Why couldn't Lego at least use a new head?! And handcuffs?! Instead of changing 2 colors?!?!?!?

Sorry. Sorry. I was just very annoyed.

Maybe Lego can make a Christmas comeback. Just maybe.

Well, on to the comic:

Oofah! That had to hurt. I'm glad I wasn't there.
